STATEMENT FROM BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA

"CarolinaEast Medical Center has decided to no longer take Blue Medicare Advantage for its hospital facility effective July 1, 2026.  It’s important for our Blue Medicare Advantage members to know that their CarolinaEast physicians will remain in network.  Medicare Advantage is an important coverage option for many people in this region and across the state—particularly older adults who rely on coordinated, affordable care close to home.  While we are disappointed by this decision, Blue Cross NC values CarolinaEast and the role it plays in serving communities in eastern North Carolina.  We will continue working with CarolinaEast in other areas, including Medicaid, and remain open to welcoming the hospital back into our Medicare Advantage network should it choose to participate in the future.  Our priority is ensuring Medicare members continue to have access to the care they need. We will provide clear information and support to help navigate this change."  Medicare may provide a "Special Election Period" to allow people who have a Blue Cross HMO or PPO to change plans, before July 1, 2026, should they decide to do so.
